Flashback Friday: Maruzen 870 Spring Shotgun – A CQB Classic

In this Flashback Friday, Airsoft Extreme revisits the Maruzen 870 spring shotgun—a compact CQB legend known for its 40-round magazine, reliable performance, and iconic upgrade kits like the G&P Master Key.

Flashback Friday: Maruzen 870 Spring Shotgun

Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening to our fellow airsofters around the world!

Today, we’ve got another blast from the past. Our featured replica is the classic Maruzen 870 spring shotgun. (See Picture 1 & Picture 2)

Ahead of Its Time

At the time of its release, there weren’t many upgrade options available for this platform. One of the few additions was the Integrated Mount System, which allowed users to mount an optic of their choice. (See Picture 3 & Picture 4)

Compact Power with Surprising Capacity

This shotgun came equipped with a 40-round magazine—yes, 40 rounds in a compact CQB platform.

Carry a few of these in your pocket, and you were set for hours of close-quarters action. (See Picture 5)

Performance

Even by today’s standards, the Maruzen 870 still delivers respectable performance, shooting between 300–305 FPS with .20g BBs. (See Picture 6)

The Underrated Legend

At the time, many players passed on this shotgun in favor of higher FPS platforms. However, that quickly changed when aftermarket support began to grow.

Once G&P released upgrade kits for the Maruzen 870, demand skyrocketed—making these shotguns much harder to find.

The Iconic Master Key Kit

One of the most popular upgrades was the G&P Master Key kit, famously inspired by setups seen in the movie Predator. (See Picture 7)

This kit transformed the Maruzen 870 into a unique under-barrel shotgun system, adding both functionality and serious visual appeal.

Final Thoughts

We hope you enjoyed today’s walk down memory lane as we revisited this CQB classic.

Take care, play safe, and we’ll see you in the next Flashback Friday!
