Want to run PTS EPM LM4 magazines in your HK416A4 GBBR? This Airsoft Extreme guide walks you through a simple modification process to ensure proper fitment, along with key measurements and tips to avoid damaging your mags.
PTS EPM LM4 Magazine Modification for HK416A4 GBBR
Hello again, fellow airsoft connoisseurs, and welcome back to the Airsoft Extreme blog! Today, we’ll be going over a simple modification that allows you to use PTS EPM magazines for LM4 GBB platforms with your Umarex H&K Licensed HK416A4 GBBR by KWA.
⚠️ NOTE: This modification will void the warranty on your magazines if they are new. Proceed at your own discretion.
Why Is This Modification Needed?
You might be wondering why modification is necessary in the first place. The reason is simple—the PTS EPM magazine is slightly wider (front to back) than the stock magazine that comes with the HK416A4. (See Picture 1 & Picture 2)

- Stock magazine width: 63.96mm
- PTS EPM magazine width: 65.49mm
This difference in size prevents proper fitment without a small adjustment.
How to Modify the Magazine
To make the PTS magazine compatible, you’ll need to carefully file down the outer surface of the magazine. You do not need to file it completely flat—a slight angle will work perfectly fine. (See Picture 3)
When comparing an unmodified magazine to a modified one, you’ll notice that only a small amount of material needs to be removed. (See Picture 4)
Important Tip
Do NOT use a Dremel tool for this modification.
The heat generated from a rotary tool can melt the plastic and cause unwanted deformation, which may require additional cleanup—or worse, ruin the magazine. Instead, use a hand file and take your time for the best results.
Final Thoughts
This quick modification allows you to maximize the use of your magazines across multiple platforms, giving you more flexibility in your loadout. We hope this guide helps you get more out of your gear. Thanks for stopping by and spending some time with us—take care, and we’ll see you next time!
