MAXIMUS by CTM

Since it’s introduction, the Action Army AAP-01 has taken the airsoft world be storm.  This little gun packs performance and innovation in a very affordable package of $104.96.  This is an amazing price for a green gas blowback pistol that is capable of full and semi-auto fire.  What is amazingly prescient of the Action Army was the baked in modularity of their design, which allows the AAP-01 to be easily customizable with a minimum of tools and knowledge.  As a result, as soon as the pistol hit the market, aftermarket parts makers started pumping out really cool mods for this gun, resulting in designs that surely exceeded Action Army’s expectations.

CTM (Taiwan) is most likely the most prolific and well known maker of AAP-01 mods.  Founded by a long time Taiwanese airsoft Youtuber, CTM rapidly produced a large library of upgrade and mod parts for the AAP-01.  It is impossible to own an AAP-01 without being aware of, or have purchased,  some CTM parts.  Just like the Tokyo Marui Hi Capa, modders can get pretty crazy with their builds, and CTM pumps out new parts to fulfill those desires.  Airsoft Extreme is pleased to offer most of CTM’s catalog of parts to its customers.

The newest modification part coming to the market is the Maximus kit.  It is a lower frame replacement for the AAP-01 that includes a HPA adapter and a M4 magazine well.  Unlike current one piece HPA adapters, the Maximus kit transforms the AAP-01 into a submachine style gun, with the M4 magazine well placed in a familiar forward position under the barrel.  BBs from the M4 magazine travel through a cleverly designed channel in the side of the of the Maximus frame, into a receiving hole at the top of the HPA adapter, which are then held in place by conventional pistol magazine feed lips.

The HPA adapter looks like a magazine, but in reality it is fixed in place by the screws that hold the grip panels in place.  BTW, you can install any of the grip panels CTM makes for a pop of color on your gun.  The pistol magazine release is really a decoration, i.e. you can run without one or install a colored one – made by CTM – to properly accessorize your gun.  The magazine release on the M4 magwell is the functional one.  The HPA adapter has to be held in a fixed position in order to properly align the BB feed channel and the receiving hole, as well as to ensure proper feeding of BBs during firing at high rates of fire.

The trigger is not a standard AAP trigger.  It was redesigned to accommodate the BB feed channel, but it is a flat trigger with adjustments for take up and travel, allowing you to tune the trigger pull for crisp, fast responsiveness.  At the time of this writing, there are no mod parts available for the trigger but CTM has them in the works.

You can install any AAP-01 upper receiver onto this frame, from stock to custom mod parts from CTM, Action Army, etc.  You will need to transfer your hammer block and slide retention parts from your original gun into the frame.   Other than that, the Maximus kit is surprising well equipped with a trigger, M4 magazine catch, basic black grip panels, and HPA adapter.  You can also install CTM’s stock adapters as well to add any picatinny mounted shoulder stock.  I highly recommend the one made by CTM (more on this next time!).  Airsoft Extreme can also custom fit the Action Army folding stock (shown) onto your build.

The kit IS available in basic black, dark earth, and pink!  The final form of the kit will be slightly different from the sample build shown but the differences are cosmetic only.  Best of all, the kit is priced at $119.99.
