Why Every Airsoft Tech Needs an Armorer’s Wrench

Getting into airsoft tech work? This guide explains why an armorer’s wrench is a must-have tool, covering its key functions and how it helps you safely disassemble and maintain your AEG or GBBR.

Airsoft Tech Basics: Using an Armorer’s Wrench

Hello aspiring airsoft techs—welcome back! We hope you haven’t been feeling left out of our recent blog posts. Today, we’re going over the basics of why every aspiring tech should have an armorer’s wrench in their tool kit.

For this guide, we’ll be demonstrating some common uses with the NCStar AR-15 Armorer’s Wrench, available on our online store. (See Picture 1 & Picture 2)

Why You Need an Armorer’s Wrench

An armorer’s wrench is a versatile, multi-purpose tool designed for working on AR-style platforms. When it comes to disassembling AEGs and GBBRs, it’s often essential—and in some cases, attempting certain tasks without one can lead to damage.

Slip Ring Removal

The main “head” of the armorer’s wrench features two sides, both of which can be used to remove the AR slip ring from the upper receiver. (See Picture 3, Picture 4 & Picture 5)

Flash Hider Removal

The next key feature is the 25/32 slot, also known as the A1 flash hider slot. This allows you to remove the majority of flash hiders found on AEGs and GBBRs. (See Picture 6 & Picture 7)

NOTE: Some flash hiders may have thick paint coatings that prevent proper fitment. In these cases, you may need to carefully file down excess paint for the wrench to seat properly.

Castle Nut Adjustment

The “tail” end of the wrench is designed for loosening and tightening the castle nut on your buffer tube. (See Picture 8 & Picture 9)
